NFAIS Event: Charting a Course: Stable, Sustainable, and Scalable Models for OA

NFAIS (National Federation of Advanced Information Services, formerly National Federation of Science Abstracting and Indexing Services) is hosting an upcoming event that is in planning for October on stable, sustainable, and scalable Models for Open Access (OA) which includes a message from the NFAIS Executive Director, Marcie Granahan:

Clearly open access is being embraced by governments, libraries and publishers. Yet opinions run strong regarding the financial models necessary for its long-term success. With this in mind, NFAIS will be bringing together global thought-leaders and researchers to explore the impact of open access in a full-day workshop planned for October. In preparation for that event, NFAIS is asking its members and information industry professionals to share their views in regard to the use of article processing charges (APCs) as a financial model for open access publications. With NFAIS including a wide variety of different organizations and professionals including abstracting and indexing service entities, academic libraries, and publishers, responses on this should be useful for looking towards ways to productively move forward as a community. At UF, we’re pursuing many initiatives in support of OA, including the new membership in the Open Library of Humanities, the IR@UF which is an institutional repository and has additional author supports, a new partnership by UF to automatically ingest and display articles published by UF authors published in Elsevier journals in the IR@UF to better support and promote the work of UF authors, collaboration with the University Press of Florida on the Orange Grove Texts+ Repository and print on demand of digital books and other projects, book arts production and publishing of very unique works by Special & Area Studies Collections, and much more!
