Pilot to Program: UFLib Domains

Like many other universities, the Libraries at UF are using Reclaim Hosting’s Domain of One’s Own to solve the “website problem” where folks need a website that does not fit the overall infrastructural support framework (needs like: site with a design that isn’t institutional, WordPress instance for a blog, various technologies for digital scholarship, and more). The Libraries started UFLib Domains to as a pilot project with an internal grant by Perry Collins, to offer a quick-start pathway for anyone working in the Libraries to publish digital scholarship, teach with technology, and experiment with new tools. Perry did tremendous work in getting the system set up, getting the first set of folks onboarded, and leading the initial transition process from pilot project to program.

Now, the Web Team in the Library Technology Services Department is leading and responsible for ongoing program support.  Program support includes documentation like this page for new and current users. The Web Team is also regularly reviewing the  list of active project, checking in with users where sites do not appear active (for web archiving and closing if/when appropriate) and maintaining a public list of example sites for others to use in thinking with for their projects. The current list of sample sites for folks to think with includes:
