ACRL has released a new research report, “Academic Libraries and Research Data Services: Current Practices and Plans for the Future” to provide a baseline assessment of the current state of and future plans for research data services in academic libraries.  Authored by Carol Tenopir, Chancellor’s Professor at the School of Information Sciences, Director of the Center for Information and Communication Studies, and Director of Research for the College of Communication and Information at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; Ben Birch, doctoral student and Graduate Research Associate on the NSF-sponsored DataONE project in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and Suzie Allard, associate professor and Associate Director for the School of Information Sciences at the University of Tennessee, the report highlights the need and imperative for research data services in colleges and universities. Academic libraries may be ideal centers for research data service activities on campuses, providing unique opportunities for academic libraries to become even more active participants in the knowledge creation cycle in their institution.
The full report is freely available in the publications section of the ACRL website (PDF).
