This webinar presentation is a tour of the Florida Digital Newspaper Library. The webinar will review the resources in and explain how to use the Florida Digital Newspaper Library.
The Florida Digital Newspaper Library includes over 1.3 million pages of historic through current newspapers, as well as historic news accounts of Florida published from 1762-1885. The newspapers in the Florida Digital Newspaper Library come from libraries and other organizations throughout the State of Florida with the majority from the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History at the George A. Smathers Libraries, University of Florida, which holds the largest collection of newspapers in the State.
A collection and preservation effort begun by the P.K. Yonge Library in 1944 called for acquisition of at least one newspaper from each of Florida’s 67 counties on an ongoing basis. In 2005, the P.K. Yonge Library transitioned its prior microfilming of current collected newspapers to digitization and digitization is ongoing for the selected newspapers today.
