The Latin American and Caribbean Collection is pleased to announce that the University of Florida Center for Latin American Studies is again sponsoring Library Travel Research Grants for Spring & Summer 2015
Their purpose is to enable faculty researchers from other U.S. colleges and universities to use the extensive resources of the Latin American and Caribbean Collection in the University of Florida Libraries (www.uflib.ufl.edu/lac<http://cms.uflib.ufl.edu/lac/Index.aspx>), thereby enhancing its value as a national resource. The grants are funded by a Title VI National Resource Center grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
Seven or more travel grants of up to $1000 each will be made to cover travel and lodging expenses. Grantees are expected to remain in Gainesville for at least one week and, following their stay, submit a brief (2-3 pp.) report on how their work at UF Libraries enriched their research project and offer suggestions for possible improvements of the Latin American Collection.
Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
Application Deadline
We will be accepting applications for Library Travel Grants for Spring & Summer 2015 until February 16, 2015. All travel must be completed by July 30, 2015.
The UF Libraries Latin American Collection
The UF Libraries’ Latin American and Caribbean Collection (LACC) is one of the leading research collections its kind. It consists of over 500,000 volumes, and includes all disciplines, although literature, the humanities, and the social sciences are best represented.  Interdisciplinary strengths include, but are not limited to, tropical conservation and development, gender issues, and religion in the Americas.  All geographic regions are well-represented, with the Caribbean, circum-Caribbean, and Brazil having the deepest holdings of published material.
UF also holds valuable collections of primary sources on Caribbean History, including archives and manuscripts related to agriculture, labor, empire and revolution in the region.  For links to descriptions and finding aids, please seehttp://guides.uflib.ufl.edu/prf.php?account_id=26007.  A relatively small part of these materials has been included in the Digital Library of the Caribbean (www.dloc.com<http://www.dloc.com/>), which scholars may want to consult before visiting Gainesville.  There are also some 50,000 reels of microfilm in the LACC (including scarce historical newspapers) and these are described athttp://guides.uflib.ufl.edu/laccmicrofilm.
Other units of the UF Libraries also contain important resources of interest to those conducting research on Latin America and the Caribbean. For example, the UF Map Library houses approximately 500,000 maps and atlases, of which some 50,000 are specific to the region.
