Ada Lovelace Day, October 14, 2014

Tomorrow is Ada Lovelace Day:

Ada Lovelace Day is an international celebration of the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). (http://findingada.com/)

It’s always wonderful to celebrate with others, so I’m always excited to see the events, news, and coverage with Ada Lovelace Day. NPR recently had a story on “The Forgotten Female Programmers Who Created Modern Tech” (thanks to Megan Raitano for sharing this with me), and more stories like this and Ada Lovelace Day itself are wonderful ways to recognize great work by colleagues.
Also, I’m very excited about the future to see new colleagues to celebrate and new innovative work to be celebrated in the coming years. I’m excited to see this in STEM overall and in STEM as connected to, through, and with other fields. Being at UF, I am of course also specifically excited to see these things at UF with UF’s ongoing investment and support in UF Research Computing including the full socio-technical (people, policies, and technologies, which includes collaborators like me in the libraries and others from across campus) for powering new work by those who officially identify as being in STEM and those from fields across academia including the Humanities, Arts, and more. UF created UF Research Computing with the vision to enable radical collaboration, and radical collaboration requires radical inclusion and connection. I hope everyone has a great Ada Lovelace Day on 14 October 2014, and am excited to see what this and future years will bring!
